Before 1837 church records when records of Births, Marriages, and Deaths were started, church records of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials are the main source of information for family historians. Most of the records are Church of England Parish Registers, though some records of other churches can be found in the National Archives in London.
Church of England Records can be invaluable to family historians. There types of records are commonly found:
- Parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials.
- Monumental Inscriptions - the names on the gravestones.
- Probate records (wills) before 1858
Before 1858 many will were proved in Church Courts. Wills from this period are held in a variety of locations.
