USING SCRIPTURE UNION FOR EMBRACE
At Embrace, the primary resource for planning a service is from www.scriptureunion.org.uk.
The link to Scripture Union can be made by visiting the Embrace Team link from the church website or directly here: www.wroughton.com/index.php/embrace-team .
Look under Service Resources and click on Scripture Union – Light*.
This will take you to the Your Church page.
(Please note: you must have a log-in and be set up as an Embrace Team member in order to access any resources.)
Once logged in you have two options: 1) to choose appropriate web resources/downloads for the service and 2) access the specific session for the day and choose from a variety of activities.
Option 1)
At Embrace we use a variety of different age range resources.
Bubbles (5’s and under)
Splash (5 to 8’s)
X-stream (8 to 11’s)
The GRID (11 to 14’s)
All-age service starters (this is very good for starting your planning if leading a service).
Each web resource link has a date and session that the resource is intended for.
Check the session on the Current Rota link from the Embrace webpage (http://www.wroughton.com/cgi-bin/embrace_rota.pl) if unsure which session is being used – IT CAN SOMETIMES VARY FROM THE SET LIST – especially when we have a special day in the life of the church.
The GRID has some very good animations to use when leading a service, but cannot currently be imbedded into EasyWorship. It can be inserted as a ppt however and used separately.
Option 2)
Use LightLive for specific activities devised for the day’s session. This can be used for the children’s work or when looking for a service starter activity.
On the left hand side of the Your Church page, click LIGHT.
In the centre of the page there will be a ‘LightLive Go there now’ logo. Click on it and it will take you directly to the sessions for that week.
(To then find a session in the future, scroll down the same page for the rest of that month, or select the next month from the top of the page).
It will tell you which ‘group’ it is for e.g. Embrace –Bubbles. You can select a different age group from the drop down option.
Click on Select Activities. You will see that the page has three tabs to choose from, an introductory tab (Switch On), Bible passage activities (Into the Bible) and follow up activities (Living the Life). Choose from any of the activities – you may want more than one to have ready just in case of time, or may choose one that will take up all the time given. The variety of activities will generally allow you to consider what activity to do if you only have a couple of children but they are of different age ranges.
The Session Overview is useful to get a background understanding of the session, with the actual Session Bible Passage accessible from a pull out tab on the right hand side of the page.
(Note: I tend to choose two or three different activities as possibilities and copy and paste to a Word Doc that I then print. I can then read the instructions and plan away from the computer if I choose. This is purely a personal choice, you may find it easier to work directly with the computer. T)
Embrace – All Age is also included in the group options. This is useful if you want to plan a service and activities that will involve everyone together, but it is important to note that the Bible reading or theme is not necessarily the same as the children’s activities. Make sure you check first.
Click on the back arrow button on your internet provider toolbar if at any stage that you want to go back to a previous page.
