Wroughton Parish Church

We offer a full range of worship at Wroughton Parish Church , from the traditional to the contemporary.

Mainstream

Our main service on Sundays is at 10.00am With the exception of the third Sunday the Parish Communion from the Church of England’s Common Worship book published in 2000. Using modern forms of liturgy and inclusive language the service is celebrated by one of the clergy, but many other members of the congregation participate in reading the Bible readings, leading the prayers of intercession, and helping distribute the Holy Communion.

During the service in term time Children’s Church is organised in Legge House adjacent to the church. (Please see the section about child protection) The children re-join the rest of the congregation at the time of Communion. In the baptistry there is a dedicated area with soft toys, small tables and chairs and drawing paper so that younger children may feel welcomed and at home.

After the service, coffee and refreshments are served in the north aisle. This is an opportunity for members of the congregation to meet newcomers and one another. The service is attended by about 100 adults and about 15 children and lasts just over an hour.

Contemporary

10am on the third Sunday of the month is the time for our Family Service. The family referred to is the whole family of God, and while families, with or without children are very welcome, so are single people, couples, and anyone else who cares to join us. The music is backed by our music group, New Creation or other groups of musicians and uses contemporary Christian worship songs. The style is informal (sometimes very informal!), visual, and there is often an opportunity to participate – though, rest assured, if you want to sit quietly at the back, that will be respected. There is usually a theme to explore through the Bible, the talk, the prayers and the music. The service is attended by about 100 adults and about 15 children and lasts from about 40 minutes to an hour.

As with our other 10am service refreshments are served for everyone who wishes to stay after the service. On Mothering Sunday and occasionally around Easter the Sunday for this service is changed. Please check with us for details.

Embrace - a new service for parents and children

Every Sunday at 11.30am our new and (very) informal service for parents and children gets under way. Including songs, bible teaching, prayer and activities for children, the service seeks to relate what the bible and the Christian faith teach, to everyday life and the issues that face people in various aspects of their lives. Before the service coffee and refreshments for children are served. It's fun, relaxed and lasts just 30 to 45 minutes.

Traditional

The Book of Common Prayer is used at our 8.00am Sunday Holy Communion service attended by 30 to 40 people. There is a short sermon and an offertory hymn. The bible readings are from the Revised Common Lectionary which gives a rich mix and variety of themes through its three year cycle. The service lasts about 40 minutes.

On Sunday evenings at 6.30pm (except the third Sunday) we have traditional Book of Common Prayer Evensong with hymns, the psalm and canticles sung to Anglican chant, a sermon and prayers of intercession. The service is attended by 40-50 people and lasts about an hour.
